College Site Sharepoint Migration
Queens College (1 mo.)

Queens College wanted to migrate their legacy website to a Sharepoint platform. Design firm Computer Generated Solution (CGS) brought me in to assist in defining the information architecture of the new site model.

Challenges

CGS was charged with migrating exisiting content pages on the Queens College (QC) website to a Sharepoint platform. QC had already begun identifying the pages in the legacy site (See Excel spreadsheet at right). We needed to :

  • Map legacy content
  • Identify common content "types" across pages
  • Reconcile inconsistent display formats across silos of information
  • Provide a consistent navigational structure for multiple subsites

Solutions

We identified common content "Webparts" across all pages. These were captured in the Content Inventory spreadsheet.

We formalized the webpart structure into a set of Sharepoint templates (See page template image at right, as well as table) that reflected the existing content.

This was a typical UxP engagement for a Sharepoint migration: Perform Content Inventory, identify the the Information Architecture and design Wireframes based on the Webparts.
