Manual: PHOENIX

Phoenix (1986)

This "dreamware" was a little ahead of its time and the marketplace. It's an icon-driven template creator and design workstation that allows you to dynamically add metadata tags to the design elements as you create a page.

I wish that still had some screen shots of the dashboard - but here's a taste of the thinking...

PHOENIX SmartPage Designer

  • It is an icon-base drawing system
  • You can use our TCS Custom Font sets
  • You can merge in TCS Clip Art
  • You can imbed Textup Field Labels (metadata tags)
  • You can capture the screen as a bit-map

HOW PHOENIX WORKS

BOOT UP

NAVIGATING THE SCREEN

CURSOR (Underline) alternates between Drawing screen and Icon Menu, as appropriate.  Directional keypad keys 8,4,6 & 2 are active for movement (diagonal keys 7,9,1 & 3 and center key 5 are not active).  Cursor moves in 10-pixel increments. Drawing point is at left edge of Underline Cursor.  Drawing shapes are "rubber-banded".

[Enter]   INVOKES ACTION (for most applications)

[F1]        REDRAWS GRAPHIC SCREEN (but does not redisplay Icon Menu)

[Esc]       REDISPLAYS ICON MENU (and places Cursor within it)

[F2]        "UNDOES" LAST ACTION (and redraws Graphic Screen and IconMenu); only "undoes" one step back

[F10]      QUITS TO DOS (Catastrophic; you hit it - you're out)

Box #8 in Upper right corner of Main Icon Menu (Angled Arrow) is used to re-position the Icon Menu.  After selecting MOVE MENU, position cursor on drawing screen and [Enter].  Icon Menu will be re-positioned with lower left corner at cursor.
